Important Note: As of Version 5.7.0 EASYLABEL will only install on Windows 2000 or higher. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows NT are no longer supported. EASYLABEL 5.6 should be used on Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows NT. Windows 95 is not supported.

Important Note: If you used Visual Studio 2003 to compile a project using EASYLABEL’s ActiveX objects with version 1.1 of the .NET framework, you may experience a crash when you run your project after upgrading to EASYLABEL 5.7.0 or higher. This is because the project tries to load .NET framework version 1.1 and then tries to load .NET framework version 2. This loading of the second .NET framework fails and that causes the crash. To correct this, compile your project using Visual Studio 2005. If this is not possible you can correct the problem if you un-install version 1.1 of the .NET framework.

The following changes/additions have been made:

  1. Scalable font in Datamax Standard driver

Added two scalable fonts (“Triumvirate” and “Triumvirate Bold Condensed”) to the Datamax Standard driver for any printer that supports these fonts.

  1. Additional Half-Toning/Dithering options for images

Added an additional prompt in the picture field properties page to allow selection of various half-toning and dithering options. Try different selections to see which one creates the best printed output for your particular image.

  1. Using FMTNAME keyword in database

When using the FMTNAME column name in a database (to select a new format file), sometimes EASYLABEL would prompt again for the format to print. This problem has been fixed. Also, after switching to the new label format, the format name would not be displayed in the application title bar. This also has been corrected.

  1. Support for mouse wheel

The label designer view can now be scrolled with the scroll wheel on the mouse. The following modifier keys are also available, which changes how the wheel works when scrolling: holding the CTRL key while scrolling zooms in/out; holding the SHIFT key while scrolling increases the scroll amount by doubling it.

  1. Two Dimensional Symbol Sizes

Sometimes when converting between printers with different resolutions (from 300 to 600 DPI for example), a 2D symbol such as Datamatrix or QR-Code would not be scaled properly resulting in a very large or very small symbol. This has been corrected.

  1. Downloading formats to Compact Flash (CF card)

Formats created for Tharo H-Series printers can be downloaded directly to a CF-card in the computer. The CF card with the downloaded formats, images, and databases can then be inserted into a printer and used in standalone mode.

  1. Database search field length

When entering a database search key, the length allowed was not always limited to the actual length of the database key. This has been fixed to only allow entry of the maximum length of the associated database key.

  1. Job Lists and Serial Files

If a label format using a serial file is added to a job list, when the job is subsequently printed, the wrong value may be used for the serial file value. This has been corrected so that the current value from the serial file is loaded when the job list is processed.

  1. Tharo H-Series and Mod 10 Check Digits

Added an option to apply a mod 10 check digit to user entered or database data when operating in standalone mode. This allows for the creation of GS1-128 symbols where certain AI’s need to have mod 10 check digit applied.

  1. Command File Field Length

Previously, the maximum length of data that could be used for a field in a command file was about 3000 characters. This limitation has been removed and the maximum field length is now 65,000 characters.

  1. Format Name in Print Request Dialog

After doing a “Save As” operation, the format name displayed in the print request dialog was the old format file name. This has been fixed to display the correct format name.

  1. cab Hermes Series Printers

When downloading a format file to a Hermes series printers, an incorrect command was added to the data. This has been fixed.

  1. Tharo Printers with Ethernet Module

The newer Ethernet modules for Tharo H and V series printers supports the option of bi-directional communication. This can be selected in the printer configuration.

  1. cab Printers and GS1-RSS (Databar)

Many cab printers support the GS1-RSS (Databar) symbol so it is now sent as a printer command instead of graphic image.

  1. Moved or Delete Label Format Files

If a label format file is moved or deleted while EASYLABEL has the format opened, this might cause a program crash. This has been corrected.

  1. Zebra Print Darkness Settings

When changing a format from one Zebra printer to another, the print darkness (heat) settings might revert to a default value. This has been fixed.

  1. XML Monitor Printer Names

The XML Monitor used a case-sensitive compare for printer names where “hp4050” is not the same as “HP4050”. This has been fixed to use a case-insensitive comparison of printer names.

  1. New LabelCom utility

The LabelCom utility program has gone through a major update. It now supports many more types of devices. In addition to the usual support for serial devices, it now supports many USB and all keyboard wedge devices. It can also monitor a file or a TCP/IP port for input. It is 100% upward compatible from the older version, so all existing configuration files will work without change.

  1. Paste Text As Picture

Corrected a problem where the “Paste Text As Picture” would not create an image of the pasted text data.

  1. New Wibu Drivers

Updated to install and use the new Wibu drivers version 6.0a.

  1. Printronix Page Size

Corrected a problem with page size on Printronix printers. If a label was longer than 11 inches then fields positioned past that 11 inch boundary would not print. This has been corrected.

  1. Tharo Printers and Standalone mode

Corrected several problems when downloading and printing of formats in standalone mode. In some cases, barcodes based on the Code 128 symbology would not encode correctly. These have been corrected.

  1. Tharo Printers and Empty Link Fields

Corrected a problem where an empty link field might cause the printer driver to crash.

  1. UPC and Sato Printers

In some cases for Sato printers printing the UPC and EAN symbols, the symbol might not print. An empty graphic image of the barcode was being created. This has been fixed.

  1. GS1 Barcode Wizard

When creating a GS1 symbol where part of the data is linked to an incrementing field, the wizard did not properly create the final data, the linked data would not increment. This has been fixed.

  1. When Printed Data Format

When specifying a format for a date to be entered for a “when printed” field (such as M-D-Y for month, day, and year) there were several problems. The format could not be removed once it was added, blanking out the date format would not be saved. Also the user could not enter a full number of digits for the when printed date. Entering 12/18/10 would work, but 12/18/2010 would not. These problems have been corrected.

  1. Image of Label Was Always Black/White

When creating an image of a label format using either the “Save Label Image” or “Create Print Images”, the resulting file was always saved as a black/white image. This has been corrected so that if the label format is in color, the image of the label will also be in color.

  1. Better Conversion Between Windows Drivers

Made a change so that if a label format specified a bar/space adjustment, that this value remains after converting the format to another driver. Be aware that any “Additional Options” that were specified are discarded unless the DEVMODE of the new printer is an exact match of the old printer.

  1. Languages added to the “Variable Table” prompt for GHS

Added the following new languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Maltese, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovenian to the “Variable Table” prompt for the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

  1. Truncated PDF-417

Added the option for Truncated PDF-417 to many of the printer drivers. If the printer supports it, we will send it as a printer command, otherwise it will be sent as a graphic image.

  1. Undo Function

If a change is made to the label properties, and then the “undo” function is used, sometimes EASYLABEL would crash when trying to view properties of a field. This has been corrected.

  1. Picture Fields on Windows Printers

Added an option to the picture field properties to allow for specifying “graphic overlay”. If this option is enabled, then the white background around images will not obscure other fields already on the label. This allows for images to overlap other images or fields.
